Interventional Pain Management

No one wants to live with pain. When a person is experiencing unpleasant bodily sensations or a complex of sensations that cause mild to severe physical discomfort and emotional distress, solutions are needed.

Dr. Newsome uses a targeted, image-guided approach to reach pain receptors in the body. This approach is minimally invasive; treatments can involve highly targeted injections of local anesthetics and steroids, intrathecal drug delivery (incorporating a pain pump), electrical stimulation of the spinal cord or peripheral nerves (neuromodulation), and other treatment modalities.

Regenerative Therapies

Regenerative therapies can be used to address chronic pain which often arises from both recent and older injuries as well as age-related degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis. Unlike traditional injection therapies for delivering anti-inflammatories, regenerative medicine aims to restore tissues to a healthier state for longer-term relief.

PRP injections are used to treat traditionally slow-healing conditions, which often take months or years to resolve. Many patients pursue this elective procedure as a means for treating torn tendons, tendinitis, muscle injuries, arthritis-related pain, and joint injuries.

The human body has a considerable ability to heal itself. PRP injections work to expedite healing in cases where chronic pain or the combination of chronic pain due to slow healing is present. Platelet-rich plasma is extracted from the patient’s own blood, which helps ensure a high concentration of platelets. Platelets release proteins that, along with promoting clotting, accelerate tissue growth. When protein cells signal injured cells to grow, damage can be repaired and pain can be significantly reduced or even eliminated.
